William Wood Woods Family HistoryThere seems to be some confusion about a branch in the family around 1800. I have seen data that combines the families of Nancy Lawson and Nancy Tilley. Both ladies married a man from the “Wood” family. There is also the usual “thing” about the “s”.

This is where the confusion begins.

Nancy Lawson married William Wood (1795-1880). William and Nancy had a son name Martin Woods and a daughter named Rachel Wood. Notice the “s”.

Now for the second part of this story. Nancy Tilley married John Wood, Sr. (1782-1861). John and Nancy had a son name Henry D. Wood. Henry D. Wood married Rachel Wood…..This makes Henry D Wood and Martin Woods brothers-in-law.

Sometimes John and William are mixed up and William is sometimes listed as husband of both or either Nancy Tilley and Nancy Lawson. I haven’t found any evidence that Henry and Rachel were related although there is a distinct possibility that they were cousins..

By the way all of these players were born and died in Stokes County, N.C. in the area around Sandy Ridge and the Snow Creek township.

That’s my family. I descend from both John Wood and Nancy Tilley AND William Wood and Nancy Lawson through Henry and Rachel.

My ancestor is also William Wood and wife Nancy Lawson by way of their son Martin Woods. Rachel was the sister of Martin. My line continues through William F Woods and William Jackson Woods. All of these folks lived around Sandy Ridge.
