About Us
Our home has been Stokes County, NC. Between 1750 and 1775 there was a influx of settlers into the county. Most of our family settled across the northern part of the county along the Virginia border. From there they began to drift east and south toward the Town of Madison which is in Rockingham County, but very near the county line. In those days Madison was the largest relatively close commercial center.
My clan is the Woods/Wood family. There is always the “s” thing. The “s” was used and not used by members of the same family which can cause a lot of confusion when tracking relatives.
The purpose of this website is for me to be able to keep up with my family heritage. I cannot remember all; therefore it is essential that I be able to see the names, dates and relationships on the computer screen.
Included are other families that have some tie to my family. My father was a Woods and my mother was a McBride. Both were born and raise in Stokes County. These are the base points of our data files. There are a number of other family names involved, some more so than others. The most common names will be Woods, Wood, McBride, Wilkins, Lawson, Nelson, Bullins and Hennis.
Ancestors come from Ireland, England and Scotland with a few Germans and Swiss thrown in.
