Wilkins Family Cemetery

William (Billy) Wilkins was my great-great grandfather. Billy is buried here in an unmarked grave. Why is his grave unmarked? I have no clue…..The supporting evidence that he is buried here is word of mouth passed down by family members. Other graves are of Billy’s brothers, sisters and children.
I recently visited the Wilkins Family Cemetery in Stokes County, NC. The cemetery is located on private property near Sandy Ridge. The owner of the property has asked that we contact him to make arrangements for a visit. He understandably wants to know who is showing up in his driveway.
There is no maintenance being done on the cemetery, therefore it is in very bad condition today. The present property owner is not obligated in any way to maintain the cemetery, so it is up to family members to do so if desired.
It seems that several members of the Wilkins family owned land around the cemetery during the 1800’s and early 1900’s. As the new generations grow and spread their wings, old family property tends to be sold. The younger Wilkins have moved on.
The cemetery has been surveyed by Jamie Holt. The information posted on the “Findagrave” web site is by Jamie.
