Creating Woods Family Roots Website
Glorious plans need to start at some place…..So here goes.

My goal is to gather and consolidate as much information as I can find on my family and include related families as much as possible.
My fathers family is Woods. Associated family names are Robertson, Wilkins and Nelson. My mothers family includes McBride and Hennis. There will be other names that interlace with Woods family name such as Smith, Bullins, Throckmorton and Mabe. The Woods family roots interlock with several other family names along the way.
It seems that these families and others settled into northern and eastern Stokes County of North Carolina in the early 1800’s.
I will present my findings in the form of stories, pictures and a family tree. Access to most of this information will require a simple log in procedure so that we can keep private and personal information in the hands of family members only. I’m relatively new at the genealogy thing but my family is Wood (no “s” usually). I believe I have traced my side of the family at minimum to a William T Wood (1758-1817) from around Dycas Creek, Rowan County, NC. I believe it looks like he and his spouse, Mary are Becca Garrett, had 14 children. He had a son, William Edmond Wood, who was born in Rowan County but ended up in Livingston, Moultrie County, IL which is about 30 miles from where I live today and where this branch of the family ended up. It appears that the generation prior William T immigrated here from Ireland or England but I am having some trouble matching up the information I can find with what makes any sense. So I’m still working on that connection.
My question for you is how close is Rowan Cty to Stokes County? Just wondering if your family is a completely different branch or if somewhere along the line we were connected.
